Texhnolyze is a Japanese anime television series directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki and produced by Yasuyuki Ueda, with original character design by Yoshitoshi ABe, based on a story by Chiaki Konaka. The action takes place in Lux, a bustling but decaying underground metropolis. Lux residents have dubbed it "The City" and regard it as a sentient entity. Organo, a professional corporation with ties to the criminal prosthetics underworld, the Union, a zealous populist organisation, and Racan, a marauding group of Texhnolyzed teenagers, compete for control of the city. The series contains an ensemble cast, but events revolve on Ichise, a stoic prize fighter who loses a leg and an arm to placate an irate promoter, Onishi, a young but level-headed Organo executive with many adversaries, and Ran, a tiny girl with a gift that impacts the entire city. The characters see crucial events that determine whether the city continues to exist as they try to embrace the hardships they are presented. Texhnolyze aired on Fuji Television for twenty episodes from April 16, 2003 to September 24, 2003. The DVD release contained two "hidden" episodes.
