The Hathaways is a 26-episode ABC situation comedy featuring Peggy Cass and Jack Weston as "parents" to a trio of performing chimps. Weston plays realtor Walter Hathaway. Elinore Cass is Candy, Charlie, and Enoch's "mother" and booking agent. The chimps appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and in 1960 ads. Mary Grace Canfield played Mrs. Amanda Allison, a servant, Barbara Perry played Elinore's friend Thelma Brockwood, and Harvey Lembeck played Jerry Roper, the chimps' theatrical agent. Belle Montrose, Steve Allen's mother, played Mrs. Harrison. The Brockwoods buy the house next door despite their misgivings about the monkeys. Joe Flynn played Freddie Winkler in the October 20 episode "Walter Takes a Partner." In "Candy's Tonsils," Vaughn Taylor played Dr. Dorsey. "TV or Not TV" starred Robert Q. Lewis as Barney Holt. Other episodes were "The Hathaways Sleep Out," "Grandma's Lamp," "TV or Not TV," "The Practical Joker," "Help Wanted," "The Shrewd Trader," and "A Man for Amanda."
