Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are responsible for the creation of the reality television hoax show known as The Joe Schmo Show. The premise of the show is that a target person or persons are made to believe that they are contestants on a reality television show; in reality, all of the other participants in the purported show – including the host – are actors, and both their actions and the outcome of the purported show are all scripted in an attempt to elicit comedic reactions from the targets. The show's premise is designed to fool the targets into thinking that they are on a reality television show. The Joe Schmo Show, the show's first season, aired in2003, and Joe Schmo2, the show's second season, aired in2004. Both seasons were titled Joe Schmo. In the first season, the hoax was played out as a standard reality competition show, while in the second season, it took the form of a dating series similar to The Bachelor. Spike made the announcement that it would be bringing back The Joe Schmo Show for a third season on December10,2012, and the season three premiere took place on January8, 2013. Voice actor Ralph Garman has been the sole consistent figure across all three seasons of Joe Schmo. Garman has played the role of "emcee" for each of the three iterations of the show.
