An old serpent spirit takes on human form after being provoked by the deeds of what appears to be a cunning human in order to expose the latter as a fraud. Bai Su Zhen challenges Xu Xuan to a competition of skill, thinking that by doing so, she will be doing the world a favor; but, what begins as a fierce competition quickly evolves into a raging passion for one another. The love between Bai Su Zhen and Xu Xuan is pushed through its paces on multiple occasions as a result of the constant hostility they face from all directions.
