The New Archies is a popular kids' TV show that draws inspiration from the Archie comics. Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, Reggie Mantle, and the other high school kids from Riverdale were recast as middle schoolers in this DIC Entertainment and NBC comedy. There were fourteen episodes total, all of which broadcast during the show's single season in 1987 and 1989. After the success of the animated series, Archie Comics created a spin-off series with the same name and continuity. The series was rebroadcast from 1991 to 1993 on the Saturday morning schedule of The Family Channel, then from 1998 to 2002 on Toon Disney. In this show, Veronica has a typical Californian accent. Nonetheless, she spoke with a southern accent in the original animated cartoons and the radio show. Dilton Doiley's "intellectual" role has been taken up by Eugene, a black man. Amani, Eugene's girlfriend, also joined the group. Additionally, Archie got a dog named Red.
