Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji form an unlikely friendship in a region governed by the powerful Wen clan. By chance, the two discover evidence implicating the Wen clan's chief in a scheme to bring mayhem to the inhabitants of their territory, and Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji resolve to take action. However, the Wen clan boss's nefarious schemes fall through the cracks when the two attempt to stop them. Wei Wuxian vanishes in the midst of the chaos, with many fearing the worst. Wei Wuxian reappeared 16 years later, completely out of nowhere. His return to Lan Wangji coincides with an uptick in the number of murders being committed in the area. The duo reunites to conduct another investigation, this time with a clear goal in mind: to succeed. It's up to the two to solve the mystery. Will the murder cases be solved? What is the identity of the evil-doer who is causing havoc across the country?
