The Vice is an ITV police drama about the Vice Unit of the Metropolitan Police. Between 1999 and 2003, it aired five short series. It chronicles the narrative of the vice squad of the London Metropolitan Police, where prostitution, underage sex, and other forms of organized crime are commonplace. Most episodes end with the main villain being apprehended, but not in the 'naturally' concluded fashion that you might anticipate from other TV dramas, and frequently leaving more issues unsolved than addressed. Detective Inspector Pat Chappel, who, like the rest of the squad, tries to strike a balance between his personal and professional lives, leads the small committed team. Working in the murky underbelly creates a constant challenge for the squad. The friction between the Vice Squad and the vice-related crimes they investigate gives the show depth. Almost every member of the crew succumbs to the temptations of sex, drugs, money, or honey traps at various points throughout the show, blurring the line between being on the right side of the law. With sometimes disastrous results.
