The World at War
The World at War is a 26-episode documentary series on World War II. In 1973, it was the most costly series ever, costing £900,000. It was created by Jeremy Isaacs and narrated by Laurence Olivier. The 1973 book The World at War by Mark Arnold-Forster accompanied the TV series. The World at War is today considered a watershed in British television history. As the Second World War was still fresh in many people's thoughts, Jeremy Isaacs was ahead of his time in reviving military history studies. The series depicted the horrible human realities of the war, including how life and death affected soldiers, sailors, airmen, civilians, tyrannical victims, and concentration camp inmates.
