Tin Man is a three-part miniseries co-produced by RHI Entertainment and Sci Fi Channel original films that aired on the Sci Fi Channel in the United States in 2007. The first installment aired on December 2nd, with the subsequent two installments airing the following nights. On March 11, 2008, it was released on DVD, and it was repeated in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand the following year. The miniseries, which stars Zooey Deschanel, Neal McDonough, Alan Cumming, Raoul Trujillo, Kathleen Robertson, and Richard Dreyfuss, is based on the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, but with science fiction and fantasy elements added. It tells the story of DG, a small-town waitress who is drawn into the O.Z., a mystical realm governed by the totalitarian sorceress Azkadellia. DG sets out on a trip with her friends Glitch, Raw, and Cain to recover her memories, find her true parents, and disrupt Azkadellia's plan to imprison the O.Z. in endless darkness. The first portion of the miniseries, which cost $20 million to create, was the highest-rated show in its timeslot, with 6.4 million viewers; the miniseries as a whole was the highest-rated miniseries of 2007. It received nine Emmy nominations, one of which was won, as well as a Critics' Choice Award nomination. Critics were divided, with some appreciating the acting, soundtrack, and visual effects while others considered it too dismal and bleak.
