Tsuburaya Productions and Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting Co., Ltd. produced Ultraman Max, an Ultraman TV series that premiered on July 7, 2005. With the exception of Ultraman Nexus, the show attempted to return to the original format of new monsters every week and being a fast-paced show. The show pays respect to previous series by featuring three of the original cast members from the first Ultraman series in an episode, as well as updated versions of iconic monsters such as Red King, Eleking, and Pigmon, among others. One odd story revolves on the production of the 1964 program Ultra Q, which was the forerunner to the first Ultraman broadcast in 1966. Two of the show's actors appear as themselves.
