Steven Lipscomb, an attorney and TV producer, started it in the U.S. He was the CEO of WPT Enterprises, the company that ran the World Poker Tour until November 2009. In 2008, the WPT began giving bracelets to the winners of its tournaments. Players who won a title before the WPT Bracelet came out were given one anyway. PartyGaming bought the World Poker Tour from WPTE for $12.3 million in November 2009.
