Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is a television anime series created by Nihon Ad Systems and Studio Gallop based on chapters 60-343 of Kazuki Takahashi's Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. It is the second anime adaptation of the manga, following the Toei Animation series, and picks off where that series left off. The story follows Yugi Mutou, a card duelist who competes against numerous opponents in a game called Duel Monsters. The series originally aired on TV Tokyo in Japan between April 2000 and September 2004, lasting 224 episodes. 4Kids Entertainment produced an English-language adaptation, Yu-Gi-Oh!, which aired on Kids' WB in North America between September 2001 and June 2006, as well as in other countries outside of Japan. Based on the series' success, 4Kids commissioned an animated film, Yu-Gi-Oh! Pyramid of Light, a movie, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters, a miniseries. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal are the three primary spin-off anime series from the series.
