Kick is an Australian television series that premiered on SBS TV on June 9, 2007. It takes place in Brunswick, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The series follows the exploits of Miki Mavros, a wild twenty-something who is forced to return to her Greek-Australian parents' Hope Street home following a failed attempt to "make it big." Miki starts working as a secretary for the suave Anglo-Indian Dr. Joe Mangeshkar, who has a lover named Jan, and things quickly get out of hand. Miki is the manager of a neighborhood soccer team, which is why the series is called Kick. The show also follows Miki's Hope Street neighbors, the Salim family, a Lebanese-Australian Muslim family with siblings Amen, Osama "Ozzie", Taghred and Layla. Amen is a controversial businessman. Osama is experiencing ordinary adolescent turmoil and has a thing for Taghred's friend Tatiana. Taghred aspires to be a professional soccer player. Layla is a university student who is supposed to marry Sharif, but her plans change when she falls in love with fellow fencer Jackie. The show's first season is available on DVD.
