Dodes'ka-den
Akira Kurosawa's film chronicles the daily lives of a group of people barely scraping by in a Tokyo slum. Despite their dire circumstances, everyone of them—the homeless father and son daydreaming about their dream home; the young woman molested by her uncle; the child who fantasizes about being a trolley conductor—finds reasons to keep going. At a difficult time in Kurosawa's life, he made the legendary Dodes'ka-den. And in this, his magnificently filmed debut color film, all of his ambitions, concerns, and artistic passion are on full display.
