Monsieur Batignole

Edmond Batignole, an apolitical grocer, lives in a small apartment in the building of his grocery in 1942, in an occupied Paris. When his future son-in-law, German collaborator Pierre-Jean Lamour, orders the arrest of the Jewish Bernstein family, they relocate to the confiscated apartment. A few days later, the young Simon Bernstein flees the Germans and returns to his former home. When Batignole discovers him, he feels sorry for the boy and takes him in, concealing Simon from Pierre-Jean and his wife. Later, Simon's two cousins meet him in the grocery's cellar. When Pierre-Jean discovers the children, Batignole decides to accompany them to Switzerland.
