Roald Dahl's Esio Trot
People don't like Mr. Hoppy, a shy old man who lives alone in an apartment building. The woman who lives below him, Mrs. Silver, has been his secret love for many years. Every time he wants to talk to Mrs. Silver, Mr. Hoppy leans over his balcony and says nice things, but he isn't brave enough to say how he really feels. Mr. Hoppy wants to tell Mrs. Silver how he feels, but he can't get his lips to form the words he wants to use. Besides her husband, Mrs. Silver has a tortoise named Alfie, who she loves very much. Even though Alfie has been with Mrs. Silver for a long time, he only grows a little and only gained 3 pounds in weight, even though Mrs. Silver has had him for a long time now. When Alfie is small, she wishes there was a way to make him bigger and more respectable as he grows. In a split second, Mr. Hoppy comes up with a way to make Mrs. Silver happy and get her love.
