At the start of the 1800s, the Earnshaws are farmers in Yorkshire. One day, when Mr. Earnshaw comes back from a trip to the city, he brings a dirty boy named Heathcliff with him. Hindley, Earnshaw's son, doesn't like the child, but Hindley's sister, Catherine, falls in love with Heathcliff. After her parents die, Cathy and Heathcliff grow up wild and free on the Moors. They are happy, even though Hindley and Heathcliff are still at odds with each other. That is, until Cathy meets Edgar Linton, the son of a rich neighbor.
