Skeet Ulrich and Angus Macfadyen star in the American drama television show Miracles. The series, which was created by Richard Hatem and Michael Petroni, has been labeled a "spiritual counterpart of The X-Files" by its creators. After the pilot, David Greenwalt, the show's co-creator, served as executive producer and lead writer for the remaining twelve episodes. Miracles follows Paul Callan, a Catholic Church modern miracles investigator who begins to doubt his faith after continually discovering commonplace explanations for various alleged incidents. Paul leaves the Church after seeing a true, supernatural miracle that saves his life, only to have his discoveries ignored due to a lack of evidence, and is asked by Alva Keel to join his organization Sodalitas Quaerito, which investigates and catalogs "unexplainable" incidents. Paul and Alva team up with former cop Evelyn Santos to fight the "darkness" before it's too late. On January 27, 2003, the show made its debut as part of ABC's new "Super Monday" lineup. The sitcom aired six episodes on ABC before being canceled due to low ratings, with the final broadcast episode attracting only 5.7 million people on March31, 2003. During its run, the show was interrupted many times, once for a replay of the documentary special Living with Michael Jackson and several other times to air newsmagazine specials about the Iraq War, which was still unfolding at the time. Fans of Miracles, outraged by the cancellation and what they viewed as ABC's mishandling of the show's Monday 10:00pm timeslot, launched a fan drive to bring the show back. Fans scribbled comments on napkins and mailed them to several networks in the hopes that the show would be renewed by another network, but their efforts were in vain, and the show was cancelled after thirteen episodes.
