POV is a public television show on the Public Broadcasting Service that shows independent nonfiction films. The letters POV stand for "point of view." POV has been showing independent documentary films for the longest time on TV. Each year, PBS shows 14–16 POV programs. Since1988, the series has shown more than 300 films for the first time on U.S. television. POV's movies focus a lot on the first-person point of view and social issues. Over its more than 20 years on TV, the show has been praised by both critics and people in the business. POV programs have also won major industry awards, such as three Oscars, 32 Emmys, 36 Cine Golden Eagles, 15 Peabody Awards, 11 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Awards, the Prix Italia, and the Webby Award.
