Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
When one man gets freed from prison, he knows exactly where he wants to go first. He is determined to become an apprentice after falling in love with a traditional comedic storyteller's interpretation of the story "Shinigami." Yakumo, the performer, has never taken an apprentice before, but to everyone's amazement, he takes the enthusiastic ex-prisoner and names him "Yotaro." Yotaro encounters others in Yakumo's life, including Yakumo's ward Konatsu, as he joyously begins his new life. Konatsu was the legendary storyteller's daughter, and Yakumo took her in after her father died tragically. Konatsu admired her father's stories and aspired to be a performer herself—but that road is not open to women.
