Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins have been cowhands for a long time. They do any ranch work that comes their way, but "nothing they can't do from a horse." These people spend a lot of time on the range, but they also go to town a little. For years, Monte has been in love with the prostitute Martine Bernard. The widow who owns the hardware store is in love with Chet, and he can't get her out of his mind. Until Shorty Austin loses his job because he gets caught up in rustling and killing. The cowboys have a lot of fun together, but Shorty Austin gets caught up in a lot of trouble. There are some things that happen to Monte and Chet that change their lives on the range.
